To jedna z największych i najbardziej imponujących zapór wodnych w Rumunii. Jej budowę rozpoczęto w 1950 roku, a zakończono w 1960 roku. Jest to zapora typu betonowego grawitacyjnego, mająca około 127 metrów wysokości i około 435 metrów długości. Dzięki tej zaporze powstało Jezioro Izvorul Muntelui (zwane również Jeziorem Bicaz), największe sztuczne jezioro w Rumunii, o powierzchni sięgającej około 33 km².
