Zamek Thierstein położony jest na bazaltowym wzgórzu o wysokości 615 m n.p.m. w miejscowości Thierstein w Bawarii. Pierwsza wzmianka o zamku pochodzi z 1343 roku, kiedy cesarz Ludwig Bawarski nadał go Albrechtowi Nothaftowi. W 1554 r. wojska czeskie spaliły zamek, który po remoncie w 1610 i 1640 r. zamek służył miejscowej ludności jako schronienie oraz biednym jako miejsce do życia. W 1725 r. zamek spłonął, a ruiny zamku odtąd służyły jako miejsce pozyskiwania materiałów budowlanych. Po gruntownym remoncie w 1950 roku zamek został udostępniony do zwiedzania.
