Jak sama nazwa wskazuje, ten wspaniały trawiasty teren był kiedyś cmentarzem miejskim. Zbudowany w XII wieku, dziś pozostały tylko rzędy łuków z XV i XVI wieku, w których mieszkali rzemieślnicy średniowiecznego targu, na którym odbywa się Fêtes de Jeanne d'Arc. Zamknięty w XVIII wieku teren był wielokrotnie przebudowywany. Będąc gospodarzem słynnego Festiwalu Jazzowego, jest obecnie gorącym punktem w życiu kulturalnym Orleanu.
