Castelo de San Felipe został zbudowany też w XVI wieku i jego funkcją była obrona portu Ferrol. Pomiędzy Castelo da Palma a San Felipe rozciągnięty został łańcuch na wypadek ataku wroga, aby uniemożliwić jego statkom wpływanie do ujścia rzeki. Port powstał oparciu o koncepcje Vaubana, w którym widać dość regularną geometrię, z hornbekiem w centrum. Miał plan grotu strzały, kierujący podwójną linię ognia zorganizowaną na dwóch piętrach w stronę morza; i wystający duży hornabeque w kierunku frontu lądowego.
