Wino, sól i zboża podróżowały średniowiecznym rozlewiskiem rzeki Blavet. Hiszpanie wznieśli pierwsze elementy cytadeli w 1590 roku. Kiedy wyszli, Ludwik XIII ukończył fortyfikacje w 1637 roku i nadał miastu nazwę Port-Louis. Kiedy zostało wybrane na siedzibę Kompanii Indyjskiej, miasto przeżyło okres dobrobytu wśród pikantnych aromatów. Kiedy firma przeniosła się do Lorient, miasto zostało przekształcone w rybołówstwo i turystykę przybrzeżną. W cytadeli muzeum prezentuje ekscytujący epos Kompania Indii, stworzony w 1664 roku przez Colberta. Podróż afrykańskimi i orientalnymi szlakami XVII i XVIII wieku, modele statków, rekonstrukcje miejsc, tkaniny, przyprawy, porcelanę…
