El Castillo de Sesimbra to ostatni z portugalskich zamków nad morzem, który zachował swój średniowieczny styl. Z jego ścian roztacza się niepowtarzalny widok na pueblo i ocean. Początki zamku Sesimbra sięgają okresu IX, czyli okresu okupacji tych terenów przez muzułmanów. W 1165 zostało zdobyte przez D. Alfonso Henriquesa, a w 1191 zajęte przez Almohadów. Jej ostateczne odzyskanie nastąpiło z inicjatywy D. Sancho I, w 1199 roku.
