Prawie 600 lat temu mieszkańcy Delitzsch zbudowali złożoną fortyfikację, aby chronić osadę miejską. Wał przed miastem obecnie zniwelowany, fosa i sześciometrowy mur miejski otaczały wczesne centrum miasta. Za każdy odcinek muru odpowiadali niektórzy obywatele, którzy w razie ataku chwycili za broń i zajmowali stanowiska. Dwóch strażników na wieżach strażniczych nieustannie obserwowało okolicę. Jedna z nich nosi nazwę Halle. Zbudowana w latach 1394-1397 jako część fortyfikacji o wysokości 39 m.
