Kościół jest w stylu romańskim i został zbudowany w XIII wieku pod nazwą San Salvador, a po reformie przeprowadzonej w 1556 roku został przemianowany na Santa María. Reformę przeprowadzono także w 1730 roku i połączono z rozbudową. Najważniejsze elementy to wspaniały ołtarz zdobiący ołtarz główny, największy przedstawiciel dzieła genialnego artysty Juana de Anchieta, rzeźba Chrystusa Miserere, również autorstwa Anchiety, a także Stalle chóru, datowane na rok 1760 i popularna rzeźba niedokończona budowla San Sebastián odpowiadająca XV wieku.
