Niezwykłą, betonową konstrukcję w samym sercu Tirany otwarto 4 października 1988 roku. Przez trzy lata mieściło się tu muzeum Enevera Hodży - zmarłego w 1985 roku wieloletniego dyktatora Albanii. Piramidę zaprojektowała jego córka - Pranvera Hodża wraz ze swoim mężem Klementem Kolancim oraz Pirro Vaso i Vladimir Bregu.

Po upadku komunizmu w 1991 roku mieściło się tu centrum konferencyjne i wystawiennicze. W połowie lat 90. otwarto tu "Disko Student" - jedną z największych dyskotek na całych Bałkanach. Podczas wojny w Kosowie w 1999 roku, "Piramidę Tirany" zajęło NATO i organizacje humanitarne. Od czasu zakończenia konfliktu imponujący obiekt stał pusty i niszczał. Okolice piramidy były jednak popularnym miejscem spotkań mieszkańców, a młodzież uwielbiała wpinać się po pochyłych ścianach betonowej konstrukcji.
