Gotycką świątynię zbudowano w 1474 roku, zaraz po tym jak wojska Macieja Korwina zniszczyły miasto. Przez kilkadziesiąt lat, od 1554 roku, do 1604 roku, świątynia była użytkowana przez protestantów. Jest to jedyny zachowany zabytek sakralnej architektury gotyckiej w Międzyrzeczu. Wewnątrz nie zachowało się pierwotne wyposażenie zarówno ołtarz główny jak boczne powstały w latach 1962-1966.
