Teren przekształcony w wyniku działalności górniczej okazał się dogodnym siedliskiem dla węży. Występowanie gniewosza na terenie dawnej kopalni wapienia znane jest co najmniej od 2014 r. Zrekultywowane wyrobiska poeksploatacyjne kopalni wapienia pokrywają obecnie dwudziestoletnie bory mieszane z przewagą sosny, liczne polany śródleśne zapewniające odpowiednie nasłonecznienie i bogaty rumosz skalny oraz wychodnie skał wapiennych i dwa zbiorniki wodne.
